It seems the war has only just begun in Europe. Speaking to MCV European, Microsoft’s VP of Strategic Marketing for Interactive Entertainment David Gosen has revealed that the Xbox 360 has sold “well over” 5 million consoles across all of Europe and that the Xbox 360 still has the lead in Europe.
“Anyone trying to call a winner this Christmas is calling too early. We are incredibly well positioned – our installed base in Europe is well over five million and contrary to what’s been reported, we are at least, if not more than, three quarters of a million ahead of PS3.”
He also hit back at the analysts claiming the 360 “hit a wall” in terms of sales in the region:
“If we look at the momentum in the business in the last few months, the trajectory has changed significantly. My only message to the analysts is to check their numbers.”
Microsoft not so long ago reduced the price of the 360 across Europe, claiming it boosted sales extremely well, but what is on everyone’s lips is the fact that Sony at their Playstation Day in May claimed to have overtaken the Xbox 360 in Europe. So who to believe? Could it be true in fact that 360 has been outselling it from May to now at a considerate amount? Or has Microsoft gotten their figures wrong? Without the likes on NPD checking sales outside of North America, it’s hard to find out who really is in the lead.
