Harmonix, the worldwide developer of music-related games, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, have announced that the initial line up of downlodable music that can be played in Rock Band: Tracks title which will be released on Tuesday, November 20th for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Once the game has been released there will be additional tracks that can be purchased in packs of 3 from Metallica, The Police, and Queens of The Stone age for $5.49 if the three part pack is purchased or $1.99 for a single track. The songs can also be purchased on Xbox Live for 440 Microsoft Points for the three song pack or 160 Microsoft Points per single track.
The musical titles available for download will be altered every week through the end of 2007 whereupon there will greater amounts of music available during the weekly downloads at the start of 2008. The prices will vary from $.99 to $2.99 per track which corresponds to 80 to 240 Microsoft points on the Xbox Live download service but the majority of the tunes will be sold for a market price of $1.99(160 Microsoft Points). Paul DeGooyer, The Senior Vice President of MTV Games, was quoted as saying that MTV Games was “excited to unleash some of the most beloved rock songs of all time for consumers to customize their Rock Band game experience - for an amazing price.” Mr. DeGooyer also stated that there was a “ overwhelmingly positive response from artists, managers, music publishers and record labels” that has resulted in a “queue of fantastic tracks that will continue to roll out every week." Alex Rigopulos, the co-founder and CEO of Harmoni, stated that “We are giving consumers a way to experience what is essentially a new game every week with more and more of the songs they love.”
