PS3 Burnout Update Deemed Good Weeks Ago; 360 Still on Hold: Why the Delay?

Those who own Burnout Paradise on the PS3 have been happily zipping along and smashing rivals in the new Cagney update for a week now. They’ve been enjoying all the free new content, including 70 new challenges, new cars, new online game modes and plenty more. Xbox 360 owners are still stuck in the garage though, just waiting for Criterion to get that last part to them so they can finish their tune-up and take their cars back onto the streets for more crashing and boosting.

Unfortunately, whatever seems to be causing the Cagney engine troubles on the 360 is apparently bigger than expected, as Criterion has announced that not only will the update miss its target release yet again, but now the soonest it will be released is August 4.

According to the Criterion blog, they’re in the midst of final testing for the revised update, and that Cagney should be ready soon. However, they aren’t able to commit on a firm release date yet, so it looks like you’ll be stuck with the same old 100+ challenges you’ve been playing since the game was released. I know, it’s hard to be a modern gamer, isn’t it?

The major question coming out of all this is why the PS3 version was deemed good to go weeks ago and released on time, while the Xbox 360 update sits idle. While I know of games having patches come out a few days apart, one that is going to be released no less than three weeks later just seems odd. Maybe EA and Microsoft are trying to convince Criterion to shove in a few more Gillette vans and billboards so they can pump up ad revenue.
