We’ve been keeping tabs on the Xbox 360 Burnout Paradise "Cagney" update for quite some time, and it looks like our vigilance is at long last rewarded as Criterion has announced that the patch is ready to go live as of today. The update allows for new online racing modes (including fan favorite Road Rage), as well as new cars, liveries, and even more challenges.
The release of Cagney has been fraught with drama, due to the fact the PS3 version of the patch was ready weeks ago, but the Cagney debut was delayed on the 360 due to unspecified reasons. All Criterion would say was that there had been some problems in testing, and that the patch would only go live once the team had fixed some bugs and resubmitted their work. We had feared that the patch would be on hold for a while since Criterion had previously stated that today was the "earliest" we could possibly see the update, but thankfully all systems are go and the patch has been released into the wild.
We also need to take this opportunity to thank the Burnout team for constantly updating the game with all this great, free content. Whereas some developers would want to charge for every new piece of content available, Criterion has taken a much more laid-back approach, constantly giving us new stuff so we can keep burning through boost and smashing up competitors months after the game’s release. Bravo Criterion, here’s hoping your model is followed by many more studios in the years to come.
