Less then a week after the Fable II Pub Games were launched, sneaky gamers from across the globe somehow managed to find a bug in the game. This bug allowed you to accumulate massive amounts of gold which would later be used in the actual retail title. It was all fun and games for the cheaters, that is, until Peter Molyneux had announced that the Pub Games glitch was intended and that people who had used this glitch would be punished when Fable II launches. Lionhead Studios have now released a patch, fixing the glitch but some questions still remain. Was the glitch really intentional? Why would they patch the game if it was intentional?
The glitch itself was for one particular minigame, known as Fortune’s Tower. The glitch was preformed by betting the lowest amount available (15 gold), then you would deal your cards and immediately after, you hit the left bumper. Hitting the left bumper causes the game to read it as the max bet, however, it actually only takes the 15 gold that you had bet before; leaving you with a huge profit, especially when moving onto the higher tables.
Of course, hundreds of thousands of gamers have already taken part in this glitch and they will all be punished accordingly. What the punishment could be, no one knows yet. Our guess is that it will probably just take away all of your money and tell you to play fairly. Now that the patch is here, no one can go back and redo it. If Lionhead Studios actually thought up this clever idea and it wasn’t a glitch, then hurray for them. But what about all of the angry gamers who spent some time amassing their pot of gold? I guess you’re going to have to face your crimes like a man. Good thing I played fairly!
