Crytek, the developer of PC games such as Far Cry and 2007’s Crysis, has announced that they will be giving a demo of the CryENGINE 2 development middleware on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at the 2008 Game Developers Conference. This is the first time that the engine will be shown on hardware platforms besides the PC. Members of Crytek, including Sten Hübler and Bernd Diemer, will be on hand during a GDC session providing info on the making of Crysis and the robust engine that powers it. There will also be various other sessions involving Crytek staff discussing the technology.
The fact that the engine that powers Crysis is capable of running on the Xbox 360 and PS3 is interesting, considering several rumors concerning a port have been debunked and staff members have said that Crysis simply cannot run on current generation systems. Even though there are currently no confirmed plans of a port of the PC hit for either console, could it still be technically possible? We expect Sten and Bernd to get hosed with questions like this at this year’s GDC in
