The holiday shopping craze left many stores bare, particularly of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, but even now, a couple month after the end of the holiday season, Xbox 360s are proving difficult to find. Microsoft’s spokesman, David Dennis, did not speak regarding how this setback would change its status in relation to the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii but did offer a statement as to the reason for the supply problems that the Xbox 360 is experiencing.
Mr. Dennis was quoted as saying that Microsoft “did not forecast the level of demand that we would see throughout the holidays, and we didn’t manufacture as many units as we should have” before going on to say that the problems was a direct application of “demand outpacing supply demand at this point. We’re working as hard as we can to replenish supply with all of our retailers, but we are aware of supply issues across the board at most major retailers in the U.S."
Mr. Dennis also stated for the record that this shortage was in no way connected with Microsoft’s hardware replacement system that has been in effect since last year after a widespread number of Xbox 360 hardware failures were reported.
