For those horror fans who have been waiting in silent(get it?) anticipation for more about the first Silent Hill title to be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 we at the TheGameReviews.com are pleased to give you an update. According to a press release from Konami, viewable on Kotaku.com, the company has decided that this sixth incarnation of the series will be given the name Silent Hill: Homecoming and will be arriving on store shelves sometime in September of 2008.
Konami also provided some details regarding the plot behind the title. Like the first Silent Hill game, the plot of Homecoming takes the form of a man who finds himself ensconced within the confines of Silent Hill due to a missing relative. The main character of SH: Homecoming, one Alex Shepard, makes his way to his birthplace to find out the truth behind the sudden disappearance of his brother. This investigation takes Alex from the familiar surroundings of his hometown into the nightmare hamlet of Silent Hill where, in addition to the freakish entities that swell there, Alex must cope with his increasingly slippery grip on reality while trying to discover what happened to his brother, the truth behind the horrific visions that torment his mind, and what darkness that still lives in Silent Hill.
Konami is also promising fans of the Silent Hill series a heightened gaming experience with this next gen console release. Players will guide Alex through his trials and battles by using a newly developed combat system that will allow Alex to fight off his foes using a large number of attacks and counters. The game will also feature a variety of weapons, along with the same style of puzzle solving that Silent Hill fans have come to expect. Silent Hill: Homecoming will also sport a new soundtrack composed by Akira Yamaoka.
