Earlier today ComputerandVideogames.com ran a story taken from UK game magazine Xbox 360 World that Splinter Cell Conviction has been taken "back to the drawing board" by Ubisoft Montreal. The magazine claims that the surprising development decision has forced Splinter Cell back into the festive period of 2009 - or as late as Spring 2010. According to Xbox World 360 the decision was made after the team felt that Conviction was looking outdated compared to other games that are already on the market, including Ubisoft’s very own Assassins Creed.
Splinter Cell Conviction was unveiled back in 2006 as a 360 exclusive and nothing has been seen of it since, though we did get an update late last year which included Ubisoft explaining combat involving dynamic scenery and crowd stealth gameplay that focused on mixing in with the public in Washington DC. From the little that we have seen of this title and the comments made by Xbox 360 World all hope was lost to seeing it this year, that was until Ubisoft responded to the rumors.
“If they’ve got an Ubisoft source then there’s something to be answered there, but if it’s just them commenting on something that they’ve heard, then it’s hard for us to make a statement on something that someone’s just taken a punt on"; said a UK PR rep for Ubisoft
So for now place this one in the “questionable” folder, but if all turns out well you could be seeing Sam Fisher’s latest adventure exclusively for Xbox 360 later on in the year.
